Fox Woman
One night while
sleeping in a small stone villa in the California
redwoods, I
dreamt that the Japanese fox goddess Inari, came to in fox form and
bade me
come join her. What
a merry moonlight
run we two vixens had!
Fox
was my first totem, then came Cardinal.
Fox magic is cunning and concealment and a
quicksilver sense of timing. Fox is sensory, sensual and protective.
A
Native American teacher named Jerry once stood in the snow
with me, prepared to interpret my Cardinal dreams.
First though, he offered tobacco, tearing the
filter end off a cigarette and holding the papered tobacco lit to the
evening
wind, turning to the four directions.
Only then would he hear my visions of red feathers
in the snow, like
scarlet arrows, and of red birds taking flight.
Jerry
considered and finally spoke. “The
Great Spirit has given you bright drops
of courage to be who you must be. There is no mistaking a cardinal when
he
flies. Sometimes when a bird loses a feather, he sheds a drop of blood.
Great
Spirit has given you heart’s blood.
Fly
unafraid.” |

MY
NORSE CRONING CEREMONY
November 2009
I
am a Norse Heathen, follower of Odin and sworn to the
Norse goddess Skadi.
Therefore my entry into
Elderhood was filled with rousing
toasts over an enormous drinking horn, raven feathers and runes. There were well wishes and
stories shared by
both males and females. It
was joyous
and filled with laughter.
My croning was
attended by males and females alike, and officiated by Grimmel and
Marigold of
The Norse Wolf Pack. I think I had the most beautiful Croning in the
Nine
Worlds. Hailsa!
